Thanks, Steph, for the link to your canner. I don’t think a stainless one exists and I’m not sure why I want one anyway, exactly. Snobbery, I guess. My 8-quart pressure cooker is a Kuhn-Rikon and it’s just beautiful.

Michelle — yes, I know how lucky I am to still have my grandma, and I treasure each experience with her. She’s really shaped who I am in so many ways.

Lisa — I think it’s just been that kind of year. No one has had much luck really. At least it makes me feel better to tell myself that. I hope you’ll try again next year.

Claudia — I wish YOU were MY neighbor. We’d rule the block! And think of how we’d eat.

Indie — really, that’s just how my grandma and I talk to each other. We had a wonderful time. We always do.

I wish my grandmother would still tell me to can tomatoes (she’s sort of feeble now, and she’s not that feisty)….it sounds like you had a nice time (in an indirect way)…
And the blueberry-thyme-toasted almond muffins sound AMAZING!

I’m looking for a giant stainless pressure canner too, so I’m really hoping you get some feedback about that. I even asked at my local (Madison) gourmet cooking supply store but they didn’t know and told me to check with a restaurant supply. If anyone has any leads I hope you’ll share them.

Love that you get to spend such wonderful times with your 92 year old grandma! She sounds awesome. Those blueberry muffins sound amazing—great twist with the thyme & toasted almonds.

I usually own my inability to grow vegetables and avoid the plants completely, but this year, I got cocky. I planted a cherry tomato plant in a nice, big pot that I could move around for sun exposure. Nothing happened. Not a single bloom opened on the plant. Herbs, however, I can handle. And, thyme with blueberries sounds fantastic.

I bought mine at my locally-owned, small-town hardware store for… significantly more than Amazon sells it for. And I’d do it again, I love my hardware store.

I’m jealous of your haul this year, even if it is gifted rather than grown.

I miss my grandma SO much and I’m so happy you get to do wonderful things like canning with yours. I’ve never canned anything so I’m not much help with your question, but I am a big, big fan of the sound of those muffins!
