It is food for the mind and soul. I like it more than I like food, which is saying a lot. So you can imagine how I’m feeling this very minute as I finished reading about your well-turned phrases talking about food, a cute cat and another culture. (language, pets, food, travel, culture…it was like you worked all my favourite things together!) I was jumping all over the blogosphere and then I stumbled upon your little virtual place…slowed down and took a deep breath, then laughed (out loud) as I imagined the look on the kitty’s face! My co-workers think I’m insane but it was well worth it.
Beautiful blog!

I’m seriously intrigued. I’ve never tried the harissa mint combination… but you’re selling it hard-core, my dear Becky. And I’ve got the perfect harissa just waiting for this dish. Or something like it.

I’m giggling over the stolen camembert. Bet kitty was smiling over that. :) Kitties do smile, you know!

I have never used harissa but keep reading about it! Must try. I’m glad you posted kitty pics – my kitties never fail to make me happy. Except when they pee on the bed. Again.

I remember a life when I was not happy at all. I was sad and angry and now when I see people like that I just want to flip a switch on them! I honestly truly believe that eating real food changes your body and your mind and your life for the better.

I’d love to see them with some stolen camembert. The harissa with the lentils looks amazing!

This is one of those that I’ll be doing likewise, with an intro note something to the effect of “This one truly IS special and so worth reading….” And so they will. And they will so agree, because they will identify — lovers of spices “so hot it’ll make you flush like you’ve gotten away with something” or not! :o)

The black beluga lentils have a round, plump texture that you’re not going to get in the flatter ones, but if you’re careful not to overcook them they should be fine.

Don, thanks for sharing your visit to Bhutan. A friend who is a nutritionist has also been there as part of a medical envoy, to teach diabetes education and treatment. She just loved it there.

There are a lot of crinoids in the foundations of the buildings here and you’re right, it looks like quinoa. Cute cat, looking appropriately guilty. I’m not sure I would have found happiness in that moment!

They have a lot of gratitude (but unfortunately, because of their poverty, they also have a lot of medical problems. I went as part of a medical envoy). The food is simple and the red rice you write about is a staple. I find t very different from regular brown rice, allot more of the place. For me it conjures Bhutan.
