Keep these “food as” posts coming, I love the diversity it offers!

i made mole negro a year ago and literally cried half way through – too much work for me…
i still have one container in the freezer…
i’m saving it for something like – the second coming of jesus

this sounds more manageable

I’m particularly partial to mole sauces and was really interested to find peanut butter (or almond butter as you substituted) in this one! This definitely sounds like a must-try.

I’ve heard some good things and your post and the recipes you posted from it convinced me. I’m with you on the sauce thing and I’m curious to see if the book comes stocked with recipes for different kinds, and not those “chez” recipes you normally find in vegan books. So thanks for the post and I’ll let you know what I think when the book arrives.

I’m definitely one of the chile heads who ramps up recipes to match my love for heat. But, I also appreciate recipes that showcase the FLAVOR of the chiles without overwhelming everything with heat.

Gotta second your rec for Veganomicon. I don’t own a copy myself, but I’ve checked it out of the library many-a-time. Great tome!!

I do like it hot, but an habanero salsa once caused me to sit and think about how badly my mouth was burning for about 20 minutes. (hot sauce festival) Love the homework. I need to get that book.

I grew the pumpkins myself from seed and harvested the flesh, cooked and canned it, then toasted the seeds just so. Okay, not really, but only because the squash bugs always get the pumpkins first… : ) I found the pepitas in bulk at Whole Foods (I did have to toast them in a dry skillet), but I also know that Trader Joe’s sells them pre-toasted.
